Emily Mabry

Curriculum Development Co-Lead, she/her/hers

Emily Mabry is a recent MPH graduate from the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health in the Sociomedical Sciences Department with a certificate in Climate and Health. She has a B.S. from the University of California, Davis, in biological science with an emphasis in neurobiology, physiology, and behavior, as well as a minor in Japanese.

At UC Davis, she did undergraduate research in a plant sciences lab with a postdoctoral researcher, investigating plant plate cell formation, specifically studying cell trafficking proteins involved in the deposition of polysaccharides at cell plates. She also studied abroad in Japan twice, each for one month during the summer of her freshman and sophomore year, focusing on Japanese culture and biochemistry, respectively.

Her love of Japan and interest in education had her participate in the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program for two years prior to enrolling in Mailman. Emily taught English in Akita, Japan, at a combined junior and senior high school. As an assistant language teacher, she created and implemented lessons, focusing on conversation, cross-cultural communication, and current global affairs.

While at Mailman, Emily has been involved in the Students for Environmental Action organization on campus. Her current interests include the health impacts of climate change, the intersection of urban planning in combating climate change and improving health, behavioral economics, and the use of choice architecture in implementing programs and policies.
