Jennifer Mullen

Jennifer Mullen is a MPH candidate at the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health in the Sociomedical Sciences department with a certificate in Child, Youth, and Family Health. She also has a BA from New York University in global studies, with a focus on politics and human rights. At NYU, she completed an undergraduate thesis about human rights violations committed by the U.S. military during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Prior to starting her MPH at Mailman, Jennifer worked in public policy consulting providing technical assistance to state and local governments seeking to implement new social service programs. In this role, she completed literature reviews, developed evaluation plans, and authored reports featuring original qualitative research. She also completed a year as an Americorps volunteer working on socioemotional learning and teaching sex education to middle and high school students in Boston.
At Columbia, Jennifer is the External Community Coordinator and an Executive Board Member of Greater Community Reach, a student organization that aims to connect Mailman students with the Washington Heights community to create a model for community engagement as public health practitioners. Her research interests include social determinants of health, urban health, mixed methods research, health promotion and communication, and trauma-informed practices.
